About Us

North Bay YMCA

The YMCA is a charity that provides health, education and social services. At the YMCA, our values and purpose drive everything that we do. As a charity, we’ve championed values of inclusiveness, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Helping people develop a healthy spirit, mind and body and inspiring a sense of social responsibility is the cornerstone of our legacy of caring.

The YMCA of North Bay has been part of North Bay and area since 1958. In 1967, the YMCA found its permanent residence on Chippewa Street West, including the Centennial pool, a large gymnasium, squash and racquetball courts, a weight training room, a lounge and clubrooms. A 1983 addition included a mini gym, elevated track, new squash and racquetball courts, a social area, an office and an elevator for the disabled. In September 2002, the new Aquatic Center opened.

Today, the YMCA of North Bay provides quality membership and program services to more 4,000 members and participants. The current 50,000 sq/ft membership centre is complemented by a 30,000 sq/ft aquatic centre owned by the City, attached to and operated by the YMCA.

Our Values

  • Empathy: We act with compassion. We are concerned for the well being of others.
  • Health: We are committed to physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development.
  • Trustworthiness: We provide a safe environment. We demonstrate integrity.
  • Inclusiveness: We embrace diversity. We respect differences. We seek common ground.
  • Respect: We value the inherent worth of every person.
  • Responsibility: We are dependable. We are accountable for the core values of the YMCA in everything we do.

Etiquette Statement: Our commitment to each other.

  • The YMCA is a shared experience for everyone to enjoy. Each of us can make it better for all by being considerate to others. YMCA members, staff and volunteers pledge to treat one another with respect and dignity. The YMCA reserves the right to suspend or cancel a membership at its sole discretion for inappropriate behaviour, or failure to comply with the Etiquette Statement.

The YMCA depends on a multitude of caring volunteers to help build healthy kids, families and communities. We believe that volunteers through their involvement in the YMCA enhance the quality of life and well being for both themselves and fellow YMCA members.

As a charity dedicated to building healthy, confident, secure and connected children and youth, families and communities, our YMCA Strong Kids Campaign ensures that no person or family is denied a YMCA experience due to financial circumstance.
